SF Trail Riders future rides
Here are a few photos of the rides we have planed for this year.
Please be patient while the pictures download. It is worth the wait.
Pictured above, (from one half mile away) are the head waters of the Rio Chama River. This 400 foot waterfall, then 500 feet of tall rapids is one of three falls in this area north of Chama NM.
This picture of Tom was taken last year and is one of his favorite trips. You will reach the three falls after a 6 mile ride up the Chama River and around.... beaver ponds. (Your horse must be able to cross shallow creeks).
It is next to The "Sargeants Wildlife preserve". (You WILL see wildlife). (We saw herds of elk and many deer last year).
Because of the distance, (2 hour drive), this will be a leave Friday, ride Saturday, ride Sunday, and return Sunday trip.

Then off to the lush meadows of the San Pedro Wilderness, (Week-end, overnight camping trip).

DAY RIDE to Plaza Blanco: (North of Espanola). Please note the moon type landscape in the background. This is just to wet your appetite for what the riders are looking at. If you do not say "Aaaah", I will buy you coffee.
After a nice safe ride you will end up in the picture below, (In the old western movies, ever wonder what a Box Canyon was ? ).
Lunch will be at the old movie set..... chairs provided .... (Ha, Ha).

Lunch at Stewart Lake.
Day ride to Stewart Lake: Located in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains above the sky basin, we will access Stewart Lake from the Pecos side, riding along Cave Creek.
We will pass the cave at Cave Creek for a "Photo op", then proceed up the mountain to the lake for lunch. Continue around the mountain and return to Ponchuella Campgrounds.
Last year the Forest Service let us stage in their training area, and hopefully they will do the same this year.
Stay tuned and see you shortly. The days are getting warmer.
